Job Seekers what you ought to know

Part 2 –
The Jobactive Forum reporting on the Australian Government Labour Market tells us what the next 5 years will hold for Job Seekers:

Labour Market: Keeping up-to-date with local market conditions will be vital.

  1. Unemployment rate projected to remain around 6%
  2. Continual shift towards the services sector and higher skilled jobs
  3. Regional variation

Job seekers need to keep up with what the Government are offering in regional markets.

As one of the Government’s initiatives, they announced on 18th June (see further details: Australian Government Seasonal Workers Programme) that they will be “consulting with industry on identifying a list of low-skilled, seasonal occupations in the agricultural industry, and these will be published on the Seasonal Worker Programme website”.

Further opportunities for job seekers are being created by the Government but you need to keep up with what they are doing to make the most of job opportunities if you really want to get back in the workforce and get an interview.

Market for Job Seekers

Market for Job Seekers

Employers: Establishing strong relationships with employers will be vital.

  1. Will be more selective
  2. Will place a premium on experience
  3. Will not compromise on soft skills

Caseloads: Training and work experience for job seekers will be vital.

  1. More young people with higher education
  2. More young indigenous job seekers
  3. More disadvantaged and long-term unemployed seekers
  4. More older job seekers transitioning out of declining industries

In May 2015 it was announced that “a key element of the Government Budget for 2015-2016 is a Growing Jobs and Small Business package. The package focuses on helping employers to create new jobs and assisting Australia’s unemployed, particularly young people, to access the skills and opportunities they need to become job-ready.”

This package includes a number of new employment measures that focus on making job seekers more employable, reducing the costs of taking on new staff, and ensuring job seekers are meeting their obligations and actively looking for work.

What all Job Seekers ought to know Part 1

Part 1 Job Seekers see what the Australian Government are saying about the JOB Market for 2015

All Job Seekers should look at this Summary of the report from the Australian Government’s National Jobactive Forum, Employment Research & Statistics, dated 7th May 2015.

What's happening in the Australian Job Market?

What’s happening in the Australian Job Market job seekers?

You can find complete details at: http://docs.employment.gov.au/node/34917

Employment has been growing, but remains below the long-term trend, which means that employers have fewer vacancies, and unemployment is increasing for Job Seekers.

Competition for lower skilled jobs has doubled and the competition is becoming more highly educated. The percentage of Bachelor Degree Graduates who found work within 4 months in 2008 was 85.2% and in 2014 it dropped to 68.1%.  Job seekers are being left behind.

Youth unemployment has increased by 13.7%, up from 8.8% in 2008  and is an increasing challenge for job seekers. In this report they say “On average” it now takes 9 weeks longer to find a job than it did in 2008.

Older job seekers are finding it takes even longer to find work…

All labour markets are different, even within different regions in Australia.

So, where are the opportunities?

Click here to see details: Ongoing shift to Service Industries

Be aware of the ongoing shifts to service industries if you are planning your career or looking for a career move. There has been a shift away from lower skilled jobs, with a 52% share of projected employment growth going to higher skilled jobs, while medium share sits at 38% and lower skilled jobs sit at 10%.

So, post-school education and training is vital for job seekers aged 25 – 34 years old. You need to look at the right training; the wrong training is of no benefit.

Click here to see details: Post-School Education

Employability skills are ESSENTIAL; these include reliability, teamwork, flexibility/adaptability, enthusiasm/positive attitude, interpersonal/social skills and customer service skills.

Why do job seekers miss out on jobs?

Employers, who GIVE NO feedback to job seekers, consider that they miss out on jobs because of lack of:

  1. Experience/skills
  2. Qualifications/training
  3. Location
  4. Poorly written/presented application
  5. Employability skills

Job seekers who RECEIVE NO feedback consider they miss out on jobs because of lack of:

  1. Experience/skills
  2. Qualifications/training
  3. Location

Many opportunities, it is reported, are not advertised and 1 in 3 vacancies are by “Word of Mouth” and the employer has been “Approached by job seeker”.

Action Verbs and Words to include in writing a Cover Letter and Resume

Every word you write into your Cover Letter and Resume should be used to help demonstrate your knowledge, skills and attributes to match the requirements of the job.

A Verb is a Word it’s an Action Word. If you can do it, then you do it. If you do it it’s a Verb!

You must describe all you have done using action verbs to increase the strength of your writing. Action verbs include: approved, built, checked, delivered, encouraged, facilitated, fixed, gained, actioned, gathered, handled, identified, increased, joined, influenced, inspired, kept, learned, demonstrated, listened, reviewed, budgeted, planned, etc. These types of verbs carry a great deal of information in a sentence and can convey emotion and a sense of purpose that extends beyond the exact meaning of the words.

Using action verbs you can easily highlight to prospective employers that your accomplishments and skills match the job advert and your application will be put on top of the pile for an interview.

Do not send your Cover Letter or Resume off until you have described your knowledge, skills and experiences using action verbs.

When you proof read your work, look for any repeated words that become redundant and senseless to the reader.

Strengthen your next application by reviewing your Cover Letter and Resume making sure that you have included action verbs and removed repeated words. Spend a little time searching for another word that will describe the meaning the same way, there is always an alternative if you find you have repeated a word.

Remember using these action verbs in writing your Cover Letter and Resume will increase the strength of your writing and make it easy for potential employers to take notice of your accomplishments and skills!

You Just Want to Apply for that JOB and get it

Target people words recruitment clip art 18.5.13When you’ve completed your Cover Letter and your Resume and are finally ready to submit your application, be aware that the application process can and will vary, depending on how the employer has requested the application process to be done.
In a lot of cases, you will be required to fill out a form that will ask your full name, your address, your telephone number, as well as a little bit of information about your work experience and the education that you received.
Remember that this Resume can also be what will determine if you get an interview; therefore always attach a copy of your complete Resume when applying for a job online, even if the employer says that uploading a resume is optional. Take optional as meaning you must include your resume or you could be making the difference of being included in the interview process or not.
The Resume that you complete in an online process will not allow you to expand on what you have done well or highlight your strengths. You could be wasting your time submitting your application if you just complete their online Resume and don’t include a copy of your full Resume.

In attaching a copy of your Resume, you should ensure that the copy is appropriate for the job or position you are applying for. If you have a master copy of your Resume make sure you adjust it so that it meets the Job description requirements before you attach it to the application process.

Website system generated application forms will not allow you to provide all of the content of your resume so including a copy of your whole Resume is essential. You have everything to gain by putting in that little bit of extra time to include creating a copy of your Resume to meet the job requirements.

Another Chance to be Successful at Getting an Interview

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. – Proverb
When you think you’ve done the hard yards and it seems tougher than you ever thought to get a job, let alone an interview, review this list and be inspired to keep on moving. If you need to do things differently read this list again.

1. If nothing ever changed, there’d be no butterflies.
2. For a caterpillar to become a butterfly it must change.
3. We are all butterflies waiting to happen.
4. Just when the caterpillar thought its life was over, it became a butterfly.
5. When you feel that you’re about to fail, it might actually be that you’re about to fly.
6. No one can do it for you, choose to use your wings.
7. Never underestimate that power that is, and has always been within you.
8. How does one become a butterfly? You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.
9. Butterflies can’t see their wings. They can’t see how beautiful they are, but everyone else can. People are like that.
10. Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it.

What Inspired Us To Create This Blog And Our Famous Cover Letter and Resume Program?

Back in 2012 I became aware that people really struggle with getting what they’ve done down in writing and too often have no idea of what to write in a Cover Letter, except “I’m a good people person and have good time management skills…etc”.

In my recruitment role at the time, I was personally receiving hundreds and hundreds of cover letters and resumes that told me nothing and said the same thing.

As the world has become busier and managers and recruitment specialist time has become more precious, a Cover Letter using phrases like this get put in the pile of “no interview” and that applicant often never hears back from the company.

I was inspired to share my knowledge with the aim of changing the quality of the content of applications and helping people make the most of the time and effort they were putting into preparing to apply for a job.

I started coaching friends and family on how to write their Cover Letter and Resume and their success rate in getting an interview proved to me that I should put my knowledge out there properly through a website program and write a Blog.

In sharing my system, tools and checklists your application will get a response and your application will address exactly what your new employee wants to see in an application.

Doing the research to find out what was good out there to meet my standards, I found it all very confusing and understood why people stop and say ‘that’s good enough” and send off their application.

My years of experience in recruitment and my extensive experience in Human Resources including Learning and Development, provided me with the ability to put a program together with exactly what creates success to get an interview for clients with no work experience to CEO’s.  Everything is all in one place with my program and you have access to support.

I was inspired to share my easy-to-follow system after so many of my friends, and their friends successfully got interviews and went on to be offered the job they needed to further their career and of course earn more money.

I now share the system on coverletterandresume.com.au with the world.  It was developed with a focus on EXACTLY what you need to include to have your application meet the job requirements and get on top of that pile for an interview and get you that job you really want.

I had wished as a Recruitment Manager that every application that landed in my email inbox had been written this way, it would have made my job much simpler.

You now have a chance to change the frustrations of never hearing back from an application.  You help recruitment staff when you make it easy for them to see that your skills match the advertised job. Your ability to know how to write a concise well written application is essential if you really want that job.

Through creating this program I consolidated my world wide study and experience into a program that can be used anywhere in the world. You will stand out from other applicants and get the same results where ever you are applying for a job.

Proven success has come from client’s feedback. You can jump over to the website and see some very nervous clients who provided video testimonials, sharing their excitement because of their success in getting that job they really wanted!

As part of our celebration of the launch of Cover Letter and Resume Program and website we are giving you access to our MEMBERS BLOG for FREE!  Just click on the link and register and change your chances of success today.

The inspiration for a Blog comes from my clients who got the job they really wanted after using the Cover Letter and Resume program. I decided it was time to share the love and teach others how to get the job the really want.

Hopefully changing the success of individual in getting that job they really want, one person at a time. #coverletter#resume#interview#job#getajob
